Be prepared for adventure

Explore the unknown

Scouts is the third age section of Scouts, and it is for adolescents aged 11 to 14 years. Scouts work as a Patrol to explore the great unknown. Every experience involves a new challenge, and Scouts support each other on the way. Ideally, Scouts progress to Venturer Scouts before their 15th birthday.

Scouts are:

  • experiencing big changes
  • exploring their changing sense of self
  • focusing more on peer networks
  • transitioning from primary school to secondary school
  • finding new ways to express themselves
  • exploring and forming their personal identity

In the program, Scouts:

  • take charge of their own expeditions
  • lead the Unit Council
  • develop more complex outdoor skills
  • support their local communities
  • start to be active in their national communities
  • form teams that last for life
  • build Project Patrols
  • develop their life perspective

The Australian Scout Award is the peak award in the Scouts age section.
