Explore the unknown
Scouts is the third age section of Scouts, and it is for adolescents aged 11 to 14 years. Scouts work as a Patrol to explore the great unknown. Every experience involves a new challenge, and Scouts support each other on the way. Ideally, Scouts progress to Venturer Scouts before their 15th birthday.
Scouts are:
- experiencing big changes
- exploring their changing sense of self
- focusing more on peer networks
- transitioning from primary school to secondary school
- finding new ways to express themselves
- exploring and forming their personal identity
In the program, Scouts:
- take charge of their own expeditions
- lead the Unit Council
- develop more complex outdoor skills
- support their local communities
- start to be active in their national communities
- form teams that last for life
- build Project Patrols
- develop their life perspective
The Australian Scout Award is the peak award in the Scouts age section.
